NbS Bike Tour | Košice
27. 9. 26 13:00
The bike tour consisted of 3 major technical checkpoints:
1. TENIS Komplex (KVP): Participants analyzed contour infiltration strips designed to prevent rapid surface runoff on sloped urban terrain.
2. KVP Municipal Office: The group moved to the local authority building to inspect a functioning model of an urban retention pond.
3. Čermeľ Forest & Alpinka: The most demanding segment involved cycling up through Bankov into the Čermeľ forest valley. Here, the participants conducted an on-site inspection of the extensive wooden water-retention check dams (vodozádržné hrádzky). These structures serve as crucial flood-prevention and ecosystem-restoration measures in the suburban forest park.
The cycling tour concluded at approximately 15:00 at the parking area above Alpinka. The expert commentary during this tour shifted focus from micro-urban interventions to macro-landscape interactions and forest hydrology. The active athletic format was highly appreciated, as it successfully merged physical exercise with high-level environmental education.
The second activity transitioned into an eco-mobility format. It aimed to showcase larger-scale, landscape-level water retention and erosion control measures that require longer travel distances. The tour gathered 12 cycling participants at 13:00 at the TENIS Komplex parking lot on Wuppertálska Street 4 (KVP district).
